At 8:00 p.m. on February 14, 2020, the “Online Salon for Fighting COVID-19 Together” was held as scheduled, and more than 400 students participated in this online exchange.

Gao Baoying, Associate Professor of School of Marxism of NPU, started the salon with the topic of “Emotional Adjustment of College Students during Home Quarantine”.Hediscussed this topic from the following four aspects: “words written in the fight against the epidemic”, “the reason why our mood is like this”, “the brain theory of ‘Trinity’”, and “our emotional and psychological adjustment”.

Professor Gao first described the epidemic situation in detail, and put forward the responsibility of college students in the work of epidemic prevention and control.He thoughtthey should not only pay attention to the epidemic situation and promote patriotism, but also do a good job in self-study, adhere to home quarantine and support the work of epidemic prevention and control.Then, he analyzed the emotional problems that might occur during home quarantine from the following five aspects: “the unity of physical distance, the numbness of spatial perception, the dullness of time perception, the decadence of five senses, and the slowness of two behaviors”. Next,he explained the principle of these emotions from the brain theory of “Trinity”. Finally, from the perspective of “trying to choose 11 things to do well”, he shared the methods of psychological adjustment during home quarantine with students, and called on them to manage their emotions appropriately and welcome every day happily.

Although the salon was forced to continue until the next day due to the poor network, the students still showed great enthusiasm for the salon.During the two-day online interaction, students sent more than 1500 bullet screens to communicate with Professor Gao.After finishing the topic, he answered many questions from the students patiently and recommended reading books for them during home quarantine.

This salon was hosted by School of Marxism andUndergraduate Student AffairsDepartmentofthe NPUCommitteeof the CPC, and will continue to be carried out.Later, a number of ideological and political teachers, counselors, and head teachers will also join the salon to conduct online communication with students.To sum up,we should continue the ideological and political work well in a targeted manner in the fight against the epidemic, create a favorable atmosphere of unity, and strengthen our confidence in defeating the epidemic.
