Xi Jinping pointed out in his important speech at the symposium for teachers of ideological and political theory courses in schools on 18 March 2019 that it is necessary to adhere to the unity of politics and scholasticism, respond to students with thorough doctrinal analyses, persuade students with thorough ideological theories, and guide students with the powerful force of truth. To achieve the unity of politics and rationality, it is necessary to deal with the relationship between the teaching of ideology and politics and scientific research and discipline construction. Over the past five years, the School of Marxism of Northwestern Polytechnical University, bearing in mind the entrustment of Xi Jinping, has adhered to the orientation of education and scientific research by, on the one hand, guiding and assisting the majority of teachers of Civics and Politics to improve their scientific research ability, and feeding high-level scientific research with high-level teaching; and on the other hand, relying on scientific research to improve the comprehensive quality of teachers of Civics and Politics, to promote innovation in education and teaching and to enhance the overall competitiveness of the teaching of Civics and Politics, so that high-level scientific research can support high-level teaching. The university has accumulated certain advantages and characteristics in the fields of Marxist theory research and Civics teaching.
Over the past five years, the School of Marxism has been awarded 38 National Social Science Funds (including one major project), 16 Humanities and Social Science Projects of the Ministry of Education (including one major project), 40 Social Science Funds of Shaanxi Province (including two major projects), and more than 70 provincial and ministerial-level projects (one provincial research team). It has published more than 470 academic papers, including more than 180 CSSCI papers, more than 20 papers in the central "three newspapers and one journal", and 32 high-level academic monographs. It has won 18 Outstanding Achievement Awards in Philosophy and Social Sciences of Shaanxi Province, 14 Outstanding Achievement Awards in Humanities and Social Sciences of Universities in Shaanxi Province, 1 Outstanding Thesis Award in Natural Sciences of Shaanxi Province, and 90 decision-making and consulting reports have been positively approved by the leaders of provinces and ministries, and adopted by the departments of provinces and ministries, etc. The main representative achievements are as follows.
1.Publication of papers:
The school has published more than 470 academic papers, including more than 180 CSSCI papers and 20 papers in the central "three newspapers and one journal". There are 6 high-level A-level papers, and Professor Yang Yunxia published "The New Manifestation of Capitalism's Intellectual Property Monopoly and Its Substance" in Marxist Studies in 2019, which reveals the manifestation and essence of intellectual property monopoly carried out by developed countries, and puts forward countermeasures to be taken by our country; and "Contemporary Hegemonic Countries' Economic Security Generalisation and China's Countermeasures" in 2021, which profoundly explains the face of contemporary hegemonic countries.
2.Publication of works:
The School has published 32 high-level academic monographs. Among them, Professor Yang Bingyu's book "The New Voice of the Plateau: A Study on the Paradigm of Red Discourse Transmission in the Shanxi-Gansu-Ningxia Border Region" was selected as a library of ideological and political education work in colleges and universities of the Ministry of Education, and was published by People's Publishing House on the eve of National Day as one of the National Day Tribute Series. Taking the red discourse of the Communist Party of China as the object of investigation, this book studies the production and dissemination process of red discourse in the Shanxi-Gansu-Ningxia Border Region and its unique paradigm, shows the glorious revolutionary tradition of the old revolutionary region, and gives the readers a deep understanding of the course of the dissemination and development of Marxism in China as well as the basis and conditions for the formation and development of socialism with Chinese characteristics.
Professor Cheng Wei's Research on 'the Cultural Competitiveness of China's World Heritage', Professor Lu Jie's Research on 'Baudrillard's Thought on the Body', Professor Zhang Yunlong's Research on 'Habermas's Theory of Dialogic Politics', Professor Ding Shejiao's 'Between Morality and Law: Research on Behavioral Norms in Public Living Space', Associate Professor Li Junshi's 'Dialogues Across Space and Time- -A Study of Some Important Issues of Confucianism in the Context of Marxist Philosophy, Lecturer Ma Jun‘s A Contemporary Interpretation of Marx's Thought on "Freedom of Labour" etc. were published by China Social Science Press, which apply the worldview and methodology of Xi Jinping's Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics in the New Era to enrich and develop the theory revealed by the Marxist theory, and together they have written a new chapter of Marxism for the times.
3.Establishment of projects
According to the working idea of project-driven scientific research, the School focuses on the frontier, integrates resources, and solidly carries out the declaration of national, provincial and ministerial projects. In recent years, 38 National Social Science Funds (including one major project), 16 Humanities and Social Science Projects of the Ministry of Education, 40 Social Science Funds of Shaanxi Province, and more than 70 other provincial and ministerial-level projects have been approved. Especially in 2023, Professor Sun Shaoyong, a young teacher, was awarded one major project of the National Social Science Foundation and one major project of the Ministry of Education's Philosophy and Social Science Research Late Stage Funding, which realised a breakthrough of "zero" in the major projects of the National Social Science Foundation of the College.
4.Research Awards
The School has won 18 awards for outstanding achievements in philosophy and social sciences of Shaanxi Province and 14 awards for outstanding achievements in humanities and social sciences of Shaanxi colleges and universities. Among them, there are 4 first prizes, 12 second prizes and 15 third prizes. Professor Yang Yunxia's "Promoting the Harmonious Development of Labour Relations", "New Manifestation of Capitalist Intellectual Property Monopoly and Its Substance", and "Contemporary Hegemonic Countries' Economic Security Generalisation and China's Response" have won the First Prize of the Fourteenth, Fifteenth, and Sixteenth Shaanxi Provincial Awards for Achievements in Philosophy and Social Sciences consecutively; Professor Hao Baoquan's "The Contribution of the Communist Party of China in Revitalising China's Cultural Confidence" won the second prize of the Fifteenth Shaanxi Philosophy and Social Science Achievement Award; Professor Lu Jie's "Study of Baudrillard's Thought on the Body" won the second prize of the Fifteenth Shaanxi Philosophy and Social Science Achievement Award; Professor Yang Bingyu's "The New Voice of the High Plains: Study on the Paradigm of Red Discourse Dissemination in the Shaanxi-Gansu-Ningxia Border Region" won the first prize of the Shaanxi Higher Education Institutions Humanities and Social Science Research Outstanding Achievement Award of Shaanxi Higher Education Institutions. The high level of scientific research achievements of the college has demonstrated the rigorous and pragmatic scientific research attitude and upward spirit of the teachers of Civics and Political Science courses.
5.Academic exchanges
The School makes full use of the academic community to gather wisdom and jointly carries out activities such as "Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics in the New Era", "Ao Xiang Famous Lecture Hall" and "Dialogue Salon on Humanities and Science and Technology" with various departments of the university. The "Contemporary Marxism Research Team" was awarded as the Innovation Team of Shaanxi Province Universities in 2023; strengthen the organised scientific research work, and combine subject seminars and academic seminars with the "Contemporary Marxism Research Team" to provide the students with the best possible support. Strengthening organised scientific research, making seminars and academic exchanges a regular part of the academic community, continuously improving the scientific research atmosphere, regularly carrying out academic activities for young teachers and students, holding nine consecutive "Workshops of the School of Marxism", creating a good atmosphere for the study of Marxist theories on campus, and holding the first international academic forum - the first international academic forum - in September 2023, and holding the first international academic forum - the first international academic forum - for the study of contemporary Marxism, which was awarded as an innovative team in Shaanxi Province.The first international academic forum was held in September 2023 - the Fourth World Culture Forum, with nearly 200 participants from the United States, the United Kingdom, Russia, Greece, Canada, Mexico and other foreign and domestic experts and scholars, university teachers and students.
Under the guidance of Xi Jinping's Thought of Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, the teachers of the School of Marxism insist on drawing nourishment from Marxist theory, fully integrating the scientific research results and theoretical harvests gained from deep research and understanding into the teaching of Civics and Political Science, and constantly pushing forward the high-quality development of Civics and Political Science courses. In the next step, the teachers of the School of Marxism will bear in mind the mandate, be firm in their confidence, take advantage of the momentum and work hard to create a new situation for scientific research and teaching of Civics and Political Science courses.
