On September 21st, the academic conference on celebrating the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China and on the application and development of Marxism in contemporary China was successfully held in Ao’xiang International Conference Center, Youyi Campus, NPU, which was jointly held by China Reform Research Association, School of Marxism in Northwestern Polytechnical University (NPU) , School of Marxism in Beijing Institute of Technology, School of Marxism in Xi’an Jiaotong University, School of Marxism in Jilin University, School of Marxism in Dalian University of Technology and School of Marxism in Hefei University of Technology. Nearly 200 representatives, including leaders from multiple work-units, Marxist experts, scholars, doctoral students and postgraduates, attended the conference, all of whom were from China Reform Research Association, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Xi’an Jiaotong University, NPU, Hefei University of Technology, Northwest University and Xidian University.

The opening ceremony of the conference was presided over by Wu Wenchuan, Deputy Party Secretary of the School of Marxism, NPU. Zhang Hailan, member of the Standing Committee of the CPC, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of NPU and Secretary of Discipline Inspection Committee of NPU, delivered an opening speech and extended a warm welcome on behalf of the university to all leaders, experts, scholars and friends who came to the conference from afar. She stressed: “this year marks the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China, the 70th anniversary of the governance of the Communist Party of China, and the 100th anniversary of the wide spread of Marxism in China. At such a time, it is of great significance to hold this conference. I hope that this conference can make new contributions to the development of Marxist Theory Discipline by building an academic exchange platform, gathering research teams and sharing research results.I also hope that all experts and scholars will continue to support the work of NPU and School of Marxism while attending the conference.”

Wang Hongbo, Vice President of China Reform Research Association and Professor of School of Marxism in Xi'an Jiaotong University, praised the conference as a grand event in the theoretical circle in his speech. Centering on the application and development of Marxism in contemporary China, the conference focused on Chinese Theory, Chinese Road and Chinese Mode, which is conducive to summarizing the theory and practice of the People’s Republic of China since its establishment 70 years ago. It is the need of the current theoretical circle, and it is also an important measure to study, research and practice Xi Jinping’s Socialist Ideology with Chinese Characteristics in the New Era, so as to promote theoretical construction, teaching and scientific research. It is of great significance to hold this academic conference in an atmosphere of carrying out the theme education of “Never forget the original heart and keep the mission in mind” throughout the country.

During the preparation of the conference, more than 80 excellent papers were submitted by experts and scholars from all over the country. At the opening ceremony, Chen Hongling, Secretary General of China Reform Research Association and Professor of Beijing Institute of Technology, read out the award-results of the paper and extended warm congratulations to the scholars who won the award.

This conference had a keynote report, a theme report and two sub forums. The keynote report was presided over by Professor Fan Jianwu, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of Xi’an University of Science and Technology. He invited Chen Xixi, member of the discipline evaluation group of the State Council and Professor of Shanghai Jiaotong University, to make the keynote report of “Why is Socialism with Chinese Characteristics good? -- a survey from the perspective of history, reality and future”.Wang Hongbo, Vice President of China Reform Research Association and Professor of Xi’an Jiaotong University, made a keynote report on “The philosophical basis and internal relationship between Chinese Road and Chinese Mode”. The theme report was presided over by Professor Zhang Yunlong of the School of Marxism in NPU. He invited Professor Huang Zhibin of Hefei University of Technology to make the theme report of “The theoretical innovation of green development view of Chinese Marxism in the new era”. Professor Lu kuanmin of Xi’an University of Technology made a theme report on “Internet development crisis and governance in the new era from the perspective of culture”. Professor Wang Qiang of Northwest University made a theme report on The evolution logic of 70-year socialist modernization in the People’s Republic of China”. Professor Lu Jie of NPU made a theme report on “Manifesto of the Communist Partyand the community of shared future for mankind”. The experts fully expressed their academic thoughts around the theme of the conference, showed their research and exploration achievements from multiple perspectives and dimensions in the aspects of theory and practice, history and reality, contemporary and future, etc., and presented a feast of thoughts for the delegates.

The two sub forums respectively invited more than ten experts and scholars from domestic universities to make special reports on the theme of the conference, who have had in-depth academic exchanges and discussions with all delegates, providing a new perspective, new thinking and new research methods for the research of the application and development of Marxism in contemporary China.

The closing speech of the conference was delivered by Professor Huang Zhibin, Vice President of China Reform Research Association and Dean of the School of Marxism in Hefei University of Technology.He summarized that this academic conference had the characteristics of rich academic connotation, strong academic rationality, brilliant report comments and in-depth exchanges,reflecting a good atmosphere among the national Schools of Marxism.

From the perspective of theoretical logic, historical logic and practical logic, this one-day academic conference summarized, reflected and deepened the experience and achievements of theory and practice in the past 70 years since the founding of the People’s Republic of China, and further deepened everyone’s understanding of Xi Jinping’s Theory of Socialism with Chinese Characteristics in the New Era.The conference successfully ended in a warm and orderly atmosphere.
